Designed around the theme of uplifting people’s spirits, Katsuichi reinterprets traditional Japanese symbols of fortune and celebration through a contemporary dining environment.

In Japanese culture, food has long been associated with wishes for success and positive energy. Tonkatsu, whose name “katsu” also carries the meaning of “victory,” is traditionally enjoyed before important occasions and moments of challenge. Drawing from this cultural association, the façade and interior walls incorporate an original lattice pattern inspired by Bishamonten, a Japanese deity associated with protection and triumph.

Natural wood, plaster finishes, and delicately layered latticework create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that balances Japanese tradition with a contemporary spatial sensibility. The space was designed to feel open, uplifting, and approachable, allowing a wide range of guests — from families to individuals dining alone — to experience comfort and ease within the restaurant.

Soft light, material texture, and rhythmic spatial composition work together to create an energetic yet calm dining experience shaped by hospitality, celebration, and everyday enjoyment.
