A trip takes us away from the everyday and lets us see, touch, and experience the culture, history, and climate of the land we are visiting. Because of this, our design was based around the idea that staying at a hotel is an important part of a trip. In the living room, a slab of Japanese granite formed over millions of years underground serves as the main wall, and all the upholstery is made with traditional dyeing and weaving techniques from Kyoto. The weight of the materials and cultural background create a relaxed, elegant space. Meanwhile, the bedroom boldly combines a vivid palette with a variety of textures to express the excitement of going on a journey. The juxtaposition of scale and textures communicate something outside the everyday, and the stack of attaché cases around the fireplace provide a whimsical point of visual interest. This Japanese suite, a fusion of conventional beauty and playfulness amidst the ever-changing urban landscape, has become a special place that elicits curiosity for future journeys.
