New Wave Hotel, Hangzhou — The Indigo Room

A Guestroom Inspired by Water, Travel,
and Cultural Memory

Hangzhou has long been shaped by water, movement, and cultural exchange. Connected by the Grand Canal and remembered through centuries of travel, the city carries a layered history where journeys, ideas, and cultures have quietly converged over time.

Drawing from this atmosphere, The Indigo Room is designed as a contemporary guestroom shaped by the depth, movement, and reflective qualities of water. Deep indigo tones, layered materials, and softly reflective surfaces create changing spatial expressions that shift throughout the day, echoing the constantly changing character of rivers, canals, and reflections.

TYPOLOGY

Designed for both short and extended stays, the maisonette-style layout maximizes comfort and functionality within a compact footprint. Carefully organized living zones, integrated storage, and flexible furniture arrangements support a stay that feels comfortable, intuitive, and suited to contemporary travel.

Rather than referencing history directly, the room draws upon the spirit of movement and exchange that has shaped Hangzhou for centuries. The Indigo Room is conceived as a contemporary retreat where travel, atmosphere, and personal reflection come together through the experience of staying.
